As a parent, you’ve done an amazing job helping your child grow. You understand how important good nutrition is to their growth. It’s why you’re here.

You’re not alone if you’re anxious about what your child is eating (or not eating). You’re not alone if you get annoyed if your child refuses to eat what you cook. And you’re not alone if you’re worried about your child’s weight and whether they’re growing as they should.

It can make it hard to go out for dinner with friends. You can never relax when they’re out without you at school or at their grandparent’s place. And it can be frustrating to work out what to make for your child when they don’t eat what you cook for the family.

What’s great is that you are doing something now. It’s understandable that you want to see someone who understands children and their specific needs. Someone who will take time to listen to you. Spend time getting to know your child and your family’s life. And create a clear plan tailored to your child.

That’s where our paediatric dietitians can help.

Frequently asked questions about paediatric dietitians

Is dietetics safe for kids?

Yes. Our role is to help with any nutrient-related issues and behavioural habits in children. To do this, we need your support and your child to give this a go.

Should I bring my child to the appointment?

Yes, it would be good for me to see your child, and if they are old enough, they can participate in the session as well.

I’m worried my child isn’t getting enough nutrients. Do we need to get a blood test?

Most of the time, no. We’ll do a detailed analysis of your child’s diet. From there we can tell what areas of their diet we need to focus on to fill in missing gaps in their nutritional intake.

For certain conditions, blood tests may be necessary, for instance, to diagnose coeliac disease. In these circumstances, basic vitamin and mineral levels can be tested at the same time.
